About Chris

Dr. Chris Timmermann

I am a neuroscientist and psychologist investigating how non-ordinary states such as psychedelics and meditation can deepen our understanding of consciousness, mental health, and human flourishing through rigorous and ethically grounded science.

I co-direct the UCL Centre for Consciousness Research (UCCR) in the UK, and founded the ECOH Foundation for the Study of Human Consciousness in Latin America, to develop consciousness research and education internationally.

Before joining UCL, I led the DMT Research Group at Imperial College London, which pioneered the science of short-acting psychedelics.

At the UCCR, we investigate the neuroscience, physiology, psychology, phenomenology, and transformative potential of non-ordinary states to advance consciousness science and inform novel approaches to mental health and wellbeing.

I am also an educator, speaker, and science communicator, having delivered hundreds of talks worldwide, and have developed multiple courses on psychedelics, meditation, and consciousness.

My research has contributed to the development of psychedelic interventions for mental health and personal development, and has been published in high-impact journals and widely featured in mass media outlets including The New York Times, BBC, The Guardian, Wired, and New Scientist.

Advisory

I advise individuals and companies interested in developing psychedelics for wellbeing, therapy, or personal development. In the past I have advised Small Pharma and Entheon Biomedical (both now part of Cybin) on developing clinical trials. That work contributed to the development of the psychedelic DMT for major depression, with highly promising findings.

I am currently a Senior Scientific Advisor for Eleusis Mind, a research endeavour built on the work we did developing extended administrations of DMT for personal development.

I advise companies and individuals interested in the research and application of psychedelics, meditation, and consciousness. If you're interested in working with me, get in touch.

Public Speaking

As a science communicator, I have given hundreds of talks throughout the world on topics related to psychedelics, meditation, and consciousness.

These public engagements have reached a wide range of audiences, including mental health professionals, scientists, and the broader public.
